Our animal helpers

The journey of discovery into living soils and plant systems is incomplete without the animals that evolved with these systems. Domestic chickens and ducks are very vulnerable in the wild but as part of an agroecology system they can be protected by design and their composting skills, pest control skills and egg laying all add to the food security of the project. Geese joined the flock in 2023 and they keep mowed grass areas bowling green short with their love of fresh green grass shoots. Geese turn grass into fertile compost and are really good at watching out for threats and alerting the other birds.
